National changes to the childhood immunisation schedule
On the 30 April 2025, we were informed of a national change to the childhood immunisation schedule to be implemented on the 1 July 2025 and a further change planned to happen on 1 January 2026.
This change will effect children born on or after 1 July 2024 which means they will no longer receive the combined Hib/MenC vaccine at their 1 year immunisation appointment.
Children will therefore be protected against MenC through the adolescent MenACWY immunisation which occurs during secondary school with the school aged immunisation team.
There has been a change to the MenB and PCV13 (Pneumococcal) immunisations. The second dose of MenB will be brought forward to 12 weeks instead of 16 weeks to provide earlier protection. This then moves the PCV13 vaccine from 12 weeks to 16 weeks to balance out the immunisation schedule and to avoid increasing the number of injections at the 12-week immunisation appointment.
Selective Neonatal Hepatitis B Program – for children at risk of HepB
For infants born on or after 1 July 2024, the extra monovalent HepB immunisation at 1 year will be removed from the schedule.
Instead, these children will receive an additional dose of the Hexavalent vaccine at 18 months (in line with January 2026 changes)
In December we will update further for January 2026 changes.
