It’s Psoriasis Awareness Month – August
Shedding light on an often-misunderstood condition
August is Psoriasis Awareness Month, a time dedicated to educating the public, supporting patients, and advancing research around one of the most common chronic skin conditions in the world. Organised annually by the National Psoriasis Foundation (NPF) and supported by health organisations globally, the 2025 campaign centres around the theme “Beyond the Surface: Understanding Psoriasis and Its Impact.”
Psoriasis affects more than 125 million people worldwide. It is an autoimmune disease that causes inflammation and the rapid build-up of skin cells, leading to red, scaly patches, itching, and pain. While primarily known as a skin disorder, psoriasis is also linked to serious health issues such as psoriatic arthritis, cardiovascular disease, and depression.
Throughout August, the NPF and partner organisations are hosting virtual seminars, awareness walks, and fundraising events aimed at advancing treatments and access to care.
Early diagnosis and holistic management are key. Psoriasis isn’t just skin deep. The inflammation can affect the entire body. We urge patients to speak to us about symptoms and explore treatment options that suit their needs.
