NHS to Deliver Cervical Screening Results via NHS App from September

On behalf of Alison Cowie, Head of Cervical Screening Operations, we are pleased to announce an important update to the NHS Cervical Screening Programme.

From September 2025, individuals who receive a negative cervical screening result will be notified digitally via the NHS App. The result will appear as both a message and an app notification. If the message is not read within 72 hours, a paper letter will be sent as a failsafe.

Letters for abnormal results will continue to be issued by post until further notice.

This change builds on the successful rollout of digital invitations and reminders in June 2025, where 9 in 10 invitations are now sent digitally, helping to modernise and streamline communication across the programme.
