Important travel information for patients – M27 closure between Junctions 9–11 over the Christmas period

Posted on:

We want to make you aware of a major planned closure of the M27 that may affect travel to and from our services over the Christmas holidays.

What’s happening?

The M27 will be fully closed in both directions between Junctions 9 and 11 while engineers install a new four-lane underpass at Junction 10. This complex work has been scheduled during a quieter time of year but will still cause significant disruption in the local area.

Closure details

When: 8pm on Wednesday 24 December 2025 to 4am on Sunday 4 January 2026

Where: Full closure of the M27 between J9 and J11 (both directions)

Why: Installation of a new underpass using a “box slide” method to reduce the need for long-term lane restrictions

Diversion Route: A signed diversion will be in place via the A27

Access: Limited access at J9 (eastbound) and J11 (westbound).

Please check official travel guidance for full details.

How this may affect you

Even though the work is planned for a lower-traffic period, there will likely be heavy congestion and delays around the local area. This may affect travel times for appointments and community services.

What you can do

Please allow extra time for your journey, plan alternative routes where possible and contact us if you are concerned about getting to your appointment.
