This page explains how we manage your test results and the best way for you to access them.
We will proactively contact you if your test results indicate you need further tests or treatment. We aim to contact patients proactively within two weeks of receiving the test results from the laboratory should, those results suggest further action is required. One of the team will be in touch should that be the case.
We will not contact you if your results are ‘normal’ unless otherwise arranged. These results will simply be added to your health record. Please take the time to check your medical record following a test, and should you wish to discuss ‘normal’ results further please do get back in touch with the practice.
Please see Viewing your test results for more information.
If you are waiting for results from another healthcare provider, e.g. a hospital, please contact the department who has arranged your tests to discuss these. It is the responsibility of the department to provide your results. We do not have authority to share results from other healthcare services.
For more information, such as how long test results can take, please see below.
Quick reminder: Our reception staff are not qualified to provide comment on or interpret any test results.

How long do results take to come through?
Test results will usually take between 48 hours to two weeks to come back to us from the laboratory. Specialised tests and scan results, such as toenail clippings, can take six to eight weeks, if not longer.
One of the team will be in touch should your results indicate further actions are needed.
Once your test results are added to your medical record, you can access your test results without needing to contact us. Please see Viewing your test results for more info.

How we review your results
A healthcare professional will review your test results here at the Practice. Your results will then be added to your medical record with a comment, such as ‘no action required’ or ‘patient will be contacted’.
We aim to proactively contact any patients within two-weeks of us receiving results back from the laboratory if results require further action. Should it be needed, one of the team will be in touch.
Once your test results are added to your medical record, you can access your test results without needing to contact us. Please see Viewing your test results for more info.

What do we do with ‘normal’ results
Due to the high number of tests that we are responsible for, unless otherwise arranged, we do not proactively contact patients if test results are marked as ‘normal’ or ‘no action required’. These results will simply be added to your medical record once they have been reviewed by our team.
Once your test results are added to your medical record, you can access your test results without needing to contact us. Please see Viewing your test results for more info.
Please take the time to check your medical record following a test, and should you wish to discuss ‘normal’ results further please do get back in touch with the practice.

If your results indicate further action is needed
If your results mean you need follow-up care such as specific treatment or more tests, a ‘proactive’ appointment will be booked in to the doctor’s diary. This appointment is an instruction for our healthcare professionals to contact you and/or request any further tests.
Proactive appointments are flexible, so we cannot give you a specific date/time when you will be contacted. We aim to proactively contact any patients within two-weeks of us receiving results back from the laboratory if results require further action. Should it be needed, one of the team will be in touch.

If your tests/scans were requested by another provider
If your test is requested by another healthcare provider, e.g. a hospital, they will be responsible for providing your results to you.
If you are waiting for results from another healthcare provider, please contact the requesting department to discuss this.
