We will contact you if your test results indicate you need further tests or treatment
We will not contact you if your results are ‘normal’ – results will be added to your health record. This page explains how to access your results.
It is your responsibility to check your results and make any necessary follow-up appointments.
Please understand our reception staff are not qualified to provide comments or interpretations on any test results.
Getting your test results
How long do results take to come through?
Results can take between 48 hours to two weeks to come back to us from the laboratory. Specialised tests and scan results may take longer.
If your test is requested by another healthcare provider, e.g. a hospital, they will be responsible for providing your results to you. If you are waiting for results from another service, please contact them directly.
How we review your results
A healthcare professional will review your test result here at the Practice. Your result will then be added to your medical record with a comment, such as ‘no action required’ or ‘patient will be contacted’.
If your result is ‘normal’
Due to the high number of tests, we do not contact patients if results are ‘normal’. Your results will be added to your medical record.
If your result indicates further action is needed
If you need treatment or more tests, a ‘proactive’ appointment will be booked in to the doctor’s diary. This appointment is an instruction for them to contact you and/or request any further tests.
We aim to complete proactive appointments within two weeks of us receiving your test result. Proactive appointments are flexible so we cannot give you a specific date/time for when you will be contacted.
Viewing your test result
Once added to your medical record, you can access your test results in the following ways:
- in your NHS App
- via the NHS website using your NHS account
- sending us an admin request via Anima between 8am – 8pm, Monday to Friday (watch our ‘how to video’ guide here)
- phone us 01329 845777 after 1pm
- visit your surgery after 1pm.
We strictly adhere to confidentiality and data protection. We will only issue test results to the person they directly relate to unless that person has given prior permission for their disclosure.
