Travel documentation & vaccinations

Planning to travel abroad? Our team will do our best to help ensure your trip is safe and stress-free. We provide specific up-to-date travel health advice, vaccinations, and documentation you may need for your destination.

Please contact the surgery at least 6–8 weeks before you travel to allow time for assessment, vaccine ordering, and scheduling. Some vaccinations are available free on the NHS, while some vaccinations and documents may require a private fee.

Before you contact us for travel advice, please ensure you are up to date with country-specific advice on required vaccines, outbreaks, and health precautions and please note, not all vaccines are NHS-funded.

Health documents for travel

We recommend you seek advice from your airline and travel company to ensure you know exactly what you need to travel.

The Practice does not provide fit-to-fly letters or covid tests. If required you will need to seek a consultation from a private provider for this.

If you need proof that medication you are bringing is prescribed by the NHS there, you can either:

  • Show your NHS App prescriptions screen at the airport.
  • Login to your NHS account and print off your medication list.
  • Take a print out of your medication provided by your pharmacy when you collect your medication.

Alternatively, you can contact us to request a printed list of your prescribed medication from us. You will need to collect the paperwork yourself and bring ID with you.

Vaccinations and other travel advice

If you would like to book vaccinations or need advice about these, visit our travel advice and vaccinations page.

If you choose to contact us for advice, please be prepared to provide details of your travel plans, including destinations, duration, and type of trip (holiday, work, or volunteering), so we can tailor your advice and protection accordingly.

The following NHS travel vaccines are generally available for free:
Hepatitis A
Typhoid
Cholera
Tetanus, Diphtheria and Polio (combined booster)

Other vaccinations such as Yellow Fever, Rabies, Japanese Encephalitis, and Hepatitis B must be arranged through private clinics, often at significant cost.
